Nepal: Migrant CSOs call for the Ratification of ILO C189 on Domestic Work
— March 27, 2018Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA) in Collaboration with the National Network Safe Migration organized a national consultation to discuss Nepal’s ratification of ILO C189 on domestic work. The consultation was held in Kathmandu, Nepal on 20 March 2018. Thirty participants representing migrant CSOs, trade unions, women’s organizations and members of the National Network participated in the consultation to plan the 2 year campaign for the ratification of the ILO Convention 189.
The participants put emphasis on recognition of domestic workers as workers, protection of women migrant workers rights and repeal of bans for women migrants. The participants also identified various stakeholders allies for the two year campaign. Relevant dates for mobilization around the campaign were also put forward (e.g. International Domestic Workers Day, May Day, International Women’s Day and International Migrats Day).
Prior to the consultation the MFA team also had bilateral meetings to plan the campaign with migrant organizatons namely, POURAKHI, the Pravis Nepali Coordination Committee (PNCC), Migrant Centre Nepal, AMKAS Nepal, and the Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) Nepal. We will be updating you more on this when the campaing is officially launched.
