Policy Brief No. 8 (2014) | The Role of Missions in Protecting and Promoting the Rights of Migrant Workers

Migrant workers in crisis in destination countries are often advised to look to their foreign missions for assistance. Of particular concern to MFA is the degree to which foreign missions of migrant countries of origin take up their responsibility to actively engage in the protection of the human and labour rights of migrant workers. Zealous oversight and engagement with the migrant worker community should occur as a matter of course, given the mission’s obligation to serve its nationals
abroad.
