C189 provides the framework and governing rules\u00a0for the recognition of domestic work as work and equal rights for all domestic workers in the\u00a0world. The Philippine government has been one of the leading countries to support the<br \/>\nConvention and has lobbied for its adoption in the ILO in Geneva last June.<\/p>\n<p>Now that domestic workers have a convention, the challenge is to translate its contents into\u00a0the realities of domestic workers. The Convention for Domestic Workers needs to be ratified by\u00a0the member countries of the ILO. The Philippines and Uruguay are the first countries to signify\u00a0immediate ratification of C189.
