MFA Participates in Ethical Recruitment Lead Auditor Course

Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA) participated in the Ethical Recruitment Lead Auditor Course held in Quezon City, Philippines from 30 July to 3 August 2018. The MFA network was represented by the MFA Secretariat, Lawyers Beyond Borders India and Bahrain, Migration Working Group (MWG) Malaysia, and the Joint Committee with Migrants Korea (JCMK). The program was organized by Verite South East Asia and Fair Hiring Inc.

The Ethical Recruitment Lead Auditor Course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully conduct the On The Level (OTL) Ethical Recruitment Audit. The program comprises two components: (1) The knowledge component, delivered online in a self-study format and (2) the five-day in-person skills workshop.

At the end of the training the participants were expected to:

1. Describe the fundamental purpose of OTL Private Recruitment and Employment Agency Audits and explain the purpose, content and interrelationship of the 10 Core Principles and Standards of Ethical Recruitment; international (and any locally agreed) industry practice; and the relevant legislative framework.

2. Plan, conduct, report and follow up Private Recruitment and Employment Agency audits in accordance with the OTL Audit Guide and by interpreting the OTL Core Principles and Standards of Ethical Recruitment.

3. Demonstrate ability to use advanced auditing skills, including gathering information from workers, as appropriate.

MFA’s participation in the program is part of the network’s broader work on recruitment reform. MFA has previously worked with Fair Hiring Inc. in developing capacity building programs on fair and ethical recruitment. MFA is also the convener of the Open Working Group on Labour Migration and Recruitment. More information about the working group can be found at: http://recruitmentreform.org/ .
