We invite you to join a global mobilization to support the rights of migrants on 1 May 2015, in the context of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Convention for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
This global mobilization is modeled after the massive demonstrations that took place throughout the United States on 1 May 2006. It emerged as a necessity in the face of human rights violations that migrants and their families suffer each and every day in all regions of the world. We are also conscious that similar mobilizations will be carried out in various countries on the 1st of May. The idea came out of the international meeting of human rights organizations that took place in Buenos Aires in June 2014. The objectives of the global mobilization include:
- Demonstrate the diverse infringements of human rights that affect migrants, asylum seekers and refugees – and their families – across of the world.
- Highlight the relationship between migration and work, in relation to both the structural causes of migration and to the situations of migrant workers in their countries of transit and destination
- Strengthen alliances between organizations that work in defense of human rights in general and the rights migrants in particular, including associations of migrants, human rights organizations, labour unions, and academic institutions among many others, at the local, national, regional and global levels.
- Promote the effective ratification and / or implementation of the conventions for the protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and their Families and Convention s97 and 143 of the ILO, as well as the application of all other ILO Conventions and regional and universal human rights treaties to the migrant population.
It is important to note that this is not a campaign led by one or various organizations. Rather, this is a call for all people and institutions that would like to participate and join this initiative, whether at the local, national, regional or global level, to organize a mobilization in their own cities and countries, in alliance with other organizations and networks with whom they work.
If you are organizing similar activities on 1 May 2015 or you would like to participate in the global mobilization, please let us know. Your participation will allow us to bring greater visibility to these actions, and also promote and strengthen relationships between different actors who are converging to a common goal of guaranteeing human rights to all migrants and members of their families, asylum seekers and refugees.

Movilización Global Derechos de Migrantes
Les escribimos para invitarlos a sumarse a la Campaña para una movilización mundial por los derechos de los y las migrantes el próximo 1ro. de Mayo de 2015, año en que se celebra el 25° Aniversario de la Convención para la Protección de los Derechos de Todos los Trabajadores Migratorios y sus Familiares.
Este proyecto tuvo en cuenta, entre otros antecedentes, las masivas movilizaciones realizadas en EE.UU el 1ro. de Mayo de 2006, y surgió como una necesidad ante las violaciones a los derechos humanos de los migrantes y sus familias que se producen día a día en todas las regiones del mundo. También somos conscientes que en diversos países se realizan acciones similares los días 1ro. de Mayo. La idea surgió en un encuentro internacional de organizaciones de derechos de migrantes que se realizó en Buenos Aires en junio de 2014 . Entre sus objetivos están:
- evidenciar las diversas vulneraciones a los derechos humanos que afectan a migrantes, solicitantes de asilo y refugiados –y sus familiares- a lo largo y ancho del mundo;
- destacar la relación entre las migraciones y el trabajo, tanto en lo relativo a las causas estructurales de la migración como en cuanto a la situación de trabajadores y trabajadoras migrantes en países de tránsito y destino,
- fortalecer las alianzas entre organizaciones que trabajan en defensa de los derechos humanos, en general, y derechos de migrantes en particular, incluyendo asociaciones de migrantes, organizaciones de derechos humanos, sindicatos, instituciones académicas, entre muchas otras, tanto a nivel local como nacional, regional y global;
- promover la ratificación y/o implementación efectiva de la Convención para la protección de los derechos de todos los trabajadores migrantes y sus familias, los Convenios 97 y 143 de la OIT, así como la aplicación a la población migrante de todos los demás Convenios de la OIT y los tratados regionales y universales de derechos humanos.
Es muy importante aclarar que no se trata de una campaña liderada por una o varias organizaciones, sino que busca que todas las personas e instituciones que quieran participar y convocar a esta iniciativa, sea a nivel local, nacional, regional o global, puedan organizar la movilización en su propia ciudad y país, en alianza con otras organizaciones y redes con las cuales trabajan.
Sin perjuicio de ello, algunas organizaciones desarrollaremos algunas herramientas de difusión en la cual se pueda reunir la información de todas las actividades que se realizarán en el marco de esta campaña. Por ello, también les invitaríamos que, en caso que planifiquen la realización de alguna actividad, compartan esa información de modo que pueda confluir en un mismo sitio la información sobre las acciones a desarrollar en cada lugar. Ello permitirá por un lado dar visibilidad al carácter global de esta acción, así como a promover y/o fortalecer la articulación entre diferentes actores que tienen como objetivo común la garantía efectiva de todos los derechos humanos para toda la población migrante, solicitante de asilo y refugiada.
Mobilisation Globale Droits des Migrants
Nous vous écrivons afin de vous inviter à vous unir au lancement d’une campagne pour la promotion d’une mobilisation mondiale pour les droits des migrants et migrantes le 1 mai 2015 prochain (l’anneé du 25e anniversaire de la Convention internationale sur la protection des droits de tous les travailleurs migrants et des membres de leur famille).
Il s’agit d’une idée survenue lors d’une rencontre internationale d’organisations pour les droits des migrant(e)s qui a eu lieu à Buenos Aires en juin 2014.
Il est important de préciser qu’il ne s’agirait pas d’une compagne menée par une ou plusieurs organisations, mais qu’elle serait la campagne de toutes les personnes et institutions qui souhaitent participer et organiser cette initiative, que ce soit au niveau local, national, régional ou global.
Cette idée a pris en compte les mobilisations massives réalisées aux Etats-Unis le 1er mai 2006 et s’est imposée comme une nécessité face aux violations des droits humains des migrant(e)s et de leurs familles qui se produisent quotidiennement dans toutes les régions du monde.
