Announcement: GFMD’s Special Session on Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of CMW

This 12-14 October 2015, the 8th Summit Meeting of Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Civil Society Days 2015 (CSD) and Common Space with governments will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. The Global Forum on Migration and Development is a recent initiative of the United Nations Member States to address the migration and development interconnections in practical and action-oriented ways. The overall theme for the 2015 GFMD Civil Society programme is Achieving Migration and Development Goals Movement together on Global solutions and Local action.

During the GFMD 2015, there will be parallel sessions, special sessions, as well as an open space.  One of the special sessions for this coming October will be on commemorating the 25th anniversary of the UN Migrant Workers  Convention. This special panel aims to raise awareness on the Migrant Workers Convention, and to show the need to ratify the Migrant Workers Convention. This special session will take place on Monday, 12 October 2015, during the first day of the GFMD Civil Society Days 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.

The moderator for this forum will be Saiful Haque from Warbe Development Foundation. Speakers include Francisco Carrión-Mena, Chair of the UN Committee on Migrant Workers, Cathi Tactaquin from National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and Milka Isinta from Pan African Network in Defense of Migrant Workers.
