1 de Mayo Marcha Mundial de Migrantes

Uno de los temas que plantearemos es la situación de los familias de Calles Allavilú y General Mackenna, familias principalmente de inmigrantes, cerca de 300 familias que por años, algunas por 20 o más años viven en ese lugar de Santiago. Hoy ellos son amenazados con un desalojo para este 4 de Mayo por un Decreto de la Alcadesa de Santiago, Carolina Thoá. Las supuestas razones las condiciones de los edificios, entre otros problemas. Lo cierto es que la medida municipal es claramente discriminatoria ya esa situación sólo afecta a los inmigrantes arrendatarios, no a los comerciantes, ni a otras familias de sólo chilenos. De hecho diversos funcionarios municipales públicamente así lo han dicho. Pero el tema no llega ahí, a la par existe un proyecto “turístico” en ejecución, hoy ya hay una ruta turística que culmina en esos edificios y curiosamente las condiciones de ese inmueble tampoco afecta a los extranjeros cuando son turistas, sólo a los inmigrantes. La medida es ilegal, nunca se les informó a los pobladores de las acciones del municipio y hoy sólo se les quiere sacar a como de lugar. No existe ninguna medida que asegure el futuro de estas 300 familias. Nosotros no nos quedaremos quietos y apoyando a nuestros hermanos inmigrantes haremos nuestra su lucha por el DERECHO DE VIVIR EN PAZ. Hoy 27 de Abril se realizó una reunión con los Consejales Vicencio y Morgado quienes se vieron preocupados con la situación y prometieron sus buenos oficios. En los próximos días presentaremos acciones legales en los tribunales que esperamos nos permitan reivindicar los derechos de estas personas.

El Ayer en Santiago de Chile

Este 1 de Mayo de 2015 se realizó con éxito la Movilización Mundial de Migrantes. Con la activa participación de Asociación Cultural Pasiones Peruanas, la Agrupación Folclórica Despertar, el Comité de Defensa de Aillavilú y Gral. Mackenna, la Comunidad de Dominicanos en Chile, la Asociación Fuerza Inmigrante, la Agrupación de Payasitos Peruanos, la Fundación Unidos con el Servicio de Todos, los amigos de MST y organizaciones y dirigentes sindicales chilenos, se llevó adelante la marcha en la Capital de Chile. Partiendo desde General Mackenna los manifestantes recorrieron Aillavilú y luego Puente hasta encontrarse con las demás organizaciones en Catedral, desde ahí se dirigieron a la Municipalidad de Santiago para funarla por el ilegal y discriminatorio desalojo que pretende hacer a 300 familias de inmigrantes. Luego al ritmo de los caporales y con lemas que hablaban de la unidad del pueblo inmigrante y chileno, así como contra el desalojo y por el reconocimiento del derecho a la migración, se dirigieron hasta la Alameda desde donde marcharon en conjunto con otras organizaciones hasta la Biblioteca Nacional donde realizaron un Mitin y llamaron a apoyar la Velatón del Día domingo en Aillavilú y la vigilia contra el desalojo que pretende hacer la Municipalidad.

En Arica se habría realizado la movilización de las organizaciones de inmigrantes hermanas, de las cuales daremos cuenta cuando nos lleguen los informes de la misma.

BASTA YA! DE RACISMO, EXPLOTACIÓN Y MUERTE DE L@S INMIGRANTES

El gobierno, los medios y los partidos políticos racistas siempre han dicho eso de que “vienen de fuera y nos quitan el trabajo a los de aquí”.

Nosotros invertimos la pregunta y decimos: que pasaría en Barcelona si un día se fueran todos los trabajadores inmigrantes?

Que pasaría si todos los inmigrantes regulares e irregulares nos montamos una semana de huelga en todos los sectores?

Que pasaría si todas las mujeres inmigrantes dejan su trabajo regular o irregular por dos días?
Que pasaría si todos los inmigrantes invisibles se juntan y dicen ya basta de tanta explotación, aquí estamos y aquí nos quedamos!!!

Mr.T.Jeevan Reddy, Ex Minister & Congress MLA attended the meeting as Chief Guest. He made the following demands:

  • Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY) Insurance Policy should include Life Insurance coverage with renewal facility.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana (MGPSY) Pension scheme & PBBY should be given to all emigrants irrespective of ECR (Emigration Clearance Required), ECNR      (Emigration Clearance Not Required) Category Passports.
  • Telangana and Andhra Pradesh State Governments should give Rs.2 Laks exgratia for families of Gulf deceased.
  • Legal aid should be given to the families of Gulf deceased in claiming the legal dues, death compensation etc
  • Dead bodies of Indian workers lying for months in Gulf mortuaries. An exclusive section should be established for this purpose in every Indian mission.

Postcard campaign in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Mr.T.Jeevan Reddy, MLA, Jagtial launched the Post Card CompaignMr. T. Jeevan Reddy, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Jagtial opened the launch of the Post Card Campaign on the occasion of May Day (Gulf Workers Day) at Jagtial in Karimnagar District of Telangana State, India on 1st May 2015. Mr. P. Narayana Swami (MRC/PMLU) , Sr. Lissy Joseph (NDWM/APDWWT), Mr. M. Bheem Reddy (TUCC) and Mrs. Srilatha Reddy, Mandal Parishad Development Officer were the main organizers and panelists for the meeting. Another similar program was conducted in Nizamabad District.

MFA & BWI Partners, National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM), Andhra Pradesh Domestic Workers Trust (APDWT), Migrants Rights Council (MRC), Palamoori Migrant Labour Union (PMLU) and Trade Union Coordination Centre (TUCC) organized the programs.

Migrant workers and their families signed the postcards and sent to Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India. They demanded for the ratifications of C189 Decent Work for Domestic Workers and the UN Migrant Workers Convention, as well as the passing of the pending bill on emigration policy in parliament.

This mela is going to open your minds to the options and choices that are there before you by sharing with you the information and knowledge to make your journey safe, informed and free from risks and abuse.

We want to make this  experience for you hence we have planned various  different activities  and colourful stalls giving you information on  your rights as women migrant workers, safety measures to protect yourself at work place , skills you need to know of, how to keep yourself healthy and legal and grievance redressal assistance. We will also screen small films, play games, sing songs, Villupattu  and enjoy the various  programme etc. The Mela will start with a public meeting  so that we make the government officials and the larger public know of our concerns and demands.

PHILIPPINES

1 May 2015 Mobilization of Trade Unions in Metro Manila, Philippines

Various labor groups, civil society and rights advocates in the country joined forces to commemorate the struggles of workers from different sectors. The following are the main calls for the May day rally:

  1. 6 hours work per dayDW_StepItUp_RecruitmentReformCampaigns_May2015
  2. 6 days per week
  3. Justice  for the workers, justice for the people.

Other  groups called against price hikes (Power, water and MRT)

Migrants rights advocates and activists were also represented through Migrant Forum in Asia and Philippine members Center for Migrant Advocacy and Kanlungan. They called on the reform of the recruitment industry (zero fees to secure decent work), realization of the rights of local and migrant domestic workers, and the ratification and proper implementation of the UN Migrant Workers Convention.

 

SOUTH KOREA

Migrant Workers’ May Day Rally in Korea

Demands:
– Repeal the retrogressive migrant workers severance pay system
– Guarantee free job change and extend legal staycmw25poster_Korean
– Stop retrogressive immigration law reform, stop crack down and legalize undocumented migrants
– Recognize and legalize the migrant workers trade union
– Guarantee migrant workers’ basic labor rights
– Stop discrimination, exploitation, and violation against women migrants
– Equal pay for equal work and raise the minimum wage
– Stop racial discrimination in the Korean society

*Participants of the rally had a moment of silence for victims of earthquake in Nepal.

 

TAIWAN

May Day Rally in Taipei

Hope Workers Center (HWC) and Hsinchu Catholic Diocese Migrants & Immigrants Service Center (HMISC) join the other members of Migrant Empowerment Network in Taiwan (MENT) in participating in the May 1 rally in Taipei City organized by their partners in the local unions.  HMC and HMISC support the local unions in their following 4 demands:

  1. To shorten the number of work hours from 84 hours every 2 weeks to 40 yours every week.
  2. To increase salaries and the minimum wage.
  3. To oppose the practice of excessive hours of overwork.
  4. To stop the practices of outsourcing which makes the workers vulnerable to abuse in the workplace.
